Stainless core damascus with powder steel PM12Cr16V as the core layer in the Chevron pattern.
The PM12Cr16V was developed for use in knife blades and achieves up to 64 HRC with suitable heat treatment.
This damascus combines a damascus appearance with a high-performance core layer for premium cutting tools.
Properties
About 1 mm of material should be removed from the outer contour due to the forging edge.
Before hardening, the damascus should have at least 1 mm thickness at the edge.
Chemical analysis (core layer PM12Cr16V)
Our "PM12Cr16V steel" heat treatment recommendation:
Hardening:
Annealing: Hold for 2 hours at 900°C, then cool slowly
Caution! Stainless core steel: Do not use "plate quenching"! This can cause the core layer to tear away from the outer layers (no delamination). There is also an increased risk of cracking in the core layer during deep freezing, especially with liquid media such as LN2 or dry ice pellets (uneven cooling).
Recommendation for etching
High-gloss polish, then in 33% hydrochloric acid.
Finish
rolled & annealed
Edges may be sharp – risk of cuts! Always wear appropriate protective equipment when working: gloves, safety glasses, and a dust mask. Store in a dry place to prevent corrosion. Not suitable for children – not a toy!
