The Böhler N690 is one of the most popular blade steels in our shop for good reason. It is stainless, offers excellent edge retention, and has high wear resistance.


Böhler N690 steel or 1.4528 (X105CrCoMo18-2) is a stainless, martensitic chromium steel alloyed with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium. 
For hardened tools and components requiring very high hardness. 
Required surface finish: fine ground or polished.

  • Si: 0,4%
  • Mn: 0,4%
  • Cr: 17,3%
  • Mo: 1,1%
  • V: 0,1%
  • Co: 1,5%

 

Heat treatment: Hardening Böhler N690:

Böhler N690 should be hardened using foil, protective gas, or vacuum.

  • Hardening temperature: 1070°C (air)
  • Tempering: 2 hours at 200°C
  • Annealing: 800°C - 850°C
  • Hardness: 60 - 61 HRC
