Böhler K600 or 1.2767 (45NiCrMo16) is a carbon-nickel cold work steel/carbon steel.


Properties

  • Suitable steel for forging damascus (forge welding).
    Etches silver in damascus patterns
  • Very high sharpness
  • Very high toughness
  • Very good polishability & flexibility
  • Good corrosion resistance compared to other (knife) carbon steels
  • Also suitable as sword steel

  • Hunting knives
  • Outdoor, survival & bushcraft knives
  • Swords
  • Axes & hatchets

 
Chemical composition

C: 0,48% | Cr: 1,30% | Mn: 0,40% | Mo: 0,25% | Ni: 4,00% | Si: 0,23%

 

Our "K600 / 1.2767" heat treatment recommendation:
Hardening:

  • Hardening temperature: 840°C - 870°C
  • Quenching medium: oil
  • Cryogenic treatment: optional, minor benefit possible
  • Tempering: 160°C - 200°C
  • Achievable hardness: 56 - 58 HRC

Forging: 1050 - 850°C / Slow cooling in furnace or in heat-insulating material.
Annealing: 610°C to 650°C
