Böhler N360 is an excellent choice when you want to make a kitchen knife with extremely high and long-lasting sharpness that also needs to be stainless. It is also ideal for a diver’s knife/fishing knife due to its very high corrosion resistance.

 

Böhler N360 or 1.4108 (X30CrMoN15-1) is a stainless, martensitic chromium steel.
Produced using the pressure ESR process for a fine microstructure. Additionally approved for food contact.


Properties

  • Nitrogen alloyed (forms nitrides as well as carbides)
  • Very high toughness
  • Thin blade geometries possible
  • Very high corrosion resistance
  • High hardness despite low carbon content
  • Extremely high sharpness
  • Good wear resistance
  • Very fine microstructure


Chemical composition

C: 0,30% | Cr: 15% | Mn: 0,40% | Mo: 1% | N: 0,40% | Si: 0,60%

Our "Böhler N360/M380 or 1.4108" heat treatment recommendation:
Hardening:

  • Oxidation protection required
  • Hardening temperature: 1000°C - 1050°C
  • Quenching medium: air or gas
  • Cryogenic treatment: -50°C or colder
  • Tempering: 160°C - 200°C or 475°C - 520°C
  • Achievable hardness: 58 - 61 HRC

Annealing: 800°C - 850°C
Forging: 1000°C - 1220°C
