Vanax delivers outstanding cutting performance thanks to its extremely fine microstructure, offers high edge retention, and combines this with extreme corrosion resistance and good toughness – this combination is almost unique.

 

Vanax from Uddeholm is a highly alloyed PM nitrogen-chromium-vanadium steel.


Properties:

  • Highly nitrogen alloyed (forms nitrides as well as carbides)
  • Extreme corrosion resistance
  • High wear resistance & sharpness
  • Good toughness & good polishability
  • High hardness
  • Very fine microstructure despite high alloy content

  • Japanese chef’s knives
  • European chef’s knives
  • Hunting knives
  • Outdoor, survival & bushcraft knives
  • Fishing knives / diving knives


Chemical composition:

C: 0,35% | Cr: 18,20% | N: 1,55% | Mo: 1,10% | V: 3,50%

Our "Vanax Steel" heat treatment recommendation:

Hardening:

  • Oxidation protection required
  • Hardening temperature: 1040°C - 1080°C
  • Quenching medium: air or gas
  • Cryogenic treatment: -50°C or colder
  • Tempering: 180°C - 200°C or 480°C - 520°C
  • Achievable hardness: 58 - 61 HRC
