ZDI 0225 - Torsion damascus round

Hand-forged round torsion damascus (stainless) by Zladinox, made from two stainless hardenable steels.
This round damascus is traditionally produced in layers, then forged into square stock, twisted, and turned round. This creates the very beautiful typical twist pattern, even on small surfaces.

• Suitable for cutlery, watches, jewelry, etc.
• Very high corrosion resistance
• Hardenable
• Deep etching possible

Heat treatment

Hardening: 1050°C (air)
Tempering: 2 hours at 200°C
Hardness: ~52 HRC

High-temperature tempering: 2 hours at 600°C
High-temperature tempered hardness: 30-35 HRC (suitable for rings)

Chemical composition

Component A: 12X18H10 (C: 0,12%, Cr: 18,0%, Ni: 10,0%)
Component B: 20X13 (C: 0,20%, Cr: 13,0%)

Recommendation for etching

1. High-gloss polish finish
2. Hydrochloric acid solution 33% (the acid should be approx. 65°C), 3-5 minutes, wash under running water with soap and a hand brush.
3. Gently polish to remove the matte layer
4. Place again in the acid for approx. 2 minutes
5. Optionally, gently polish again for a glossy finish

This process can be repeated several times to achieve a deeper etch.
