1.2703 / SKS5 / 8670 carbon steel

The 1.2703 / SKS5 steel, also known as AISI 8670, is a carbon steel additionally alloyed with nickel.

Properties

• Suitable steel for damascus forging (forge welding)
• Very high sharpness
• Easy to sharpen
• Very high toughness
• Also suitable as sword steel

• Hunting knives
• Outdoor, survival & bushcraft knives

 
Chemical composition

• C: 0,71%
• Cr: 0,4%
• Mn: 0,45%
• Mo: 0,1%
• Ni: 0,75%
• Si: 0,25%

Heat treatment: Hardening 1.2703:

• Hardening: 820°C (oil)
• Tempering: 2 hours at 200°C
• Hardness: ~60 HRC
