VG10 CORE Damascus - Wild

Stainless VG10 Core Damascus with VG10 core layer in the "Wild" pattern.
This damascus should have at least 1,0 mm at the edge before hardening.

Our "VG10 CORE Damascus Steel" heat treatment recommendation:
Hardening:

• Oxidation protection required
• Hardening temperature: 1050°C - 1070°C
• Quenching medium: air
• Cryogenic treatment: optional, but beneficial
• Tempering: 170°C - 205°C
• Achievable hardness: 60 - 62 HRC

Annealing: Hold for 2 hours at 850°C, then cool slowly
Caution! Stainless core steel: Do not use "plate quenching", no cryogenics with dry ice or liquid nitrogen. This often causes the core layer to be torn from the outer layers (no delamination). If deep freezing, only use gentle methods such as a freezer, but there is still a slightly increased risk.

Etching recommendation

Gloss finish: High-gloss polish, then etch in 33% hydrochloric acid for 3-10 minutes
Matte finish: Pre-sanded to approx. grit 800, then etch in 33% hydrochloric acid for 3-10 minutes
