BladeDamascus - Go Mai 440C

Stainless Go Mai with 440C core layer, do not grind the edge thinner than 1 mm before hardening.

Our "Go Mai 440C Steel" heat treatment recommendation:
Hardening:

• Oxidation protection required
• Hardening temperature: 1030°C - 1065°C
• Quenching medium: air
• Cryogenic treatment: optional, but beneficial
• Tempering: 170°C - 200°C
• Achievable hardness: 57 - 60 HRC

Annealing: 800°C - 840°C
Caution! Stainless core steel: Do not use "plate quenching", no cryogenics with dry ice or liquid nitrogen. This often causes the core layer to be torn from the outer layers (no delamination). If deep freezing, only use gentle methods such as a freezer, but there is still a slightly increased risk.

Etching recommendation: The steel develops a strong contrast when etched with 33% hydrochloric acid.
For a dark finish, it can then be dipped in ferric chloride, which blackens or dark etches the steel. Alternatively, the surface can be polished to a high gloss for a shiny finish.
