The blade steel 440C / Böhler N695 / 1.4125 is a martensitic chromium steel. Mainly known as 440C steel, it has been used for knife making since the 1960s.

1.4125 Heat treatment: 440C hardening:

Hardening temperature: 1050°C (air)
Tempering: 2 hours at 180°C
Hardness: ~60 HRC
Annealing: 780°C - 840°C
