The blade steel 440C / Böhler N695 / 1.4125 is a martensitic chromium steel. Mainly known as 440C steel, it has been used for knife making since the 1960s.

Chemical composition

C: 1,05% | Cr: 16,7% | Si: 0,4% | Mn: 0,4% | Mo: 0,5%

Our "1.4125 / Böhler N695 or 440C steel" heat treatment recommendation:
Hardening:

  • Oxidation protection required
  • Hardening temperature: 1030°C - 1065°C
  • Quenching medium: air / alternative oil
  • Cryo treatment: -40°C or colder
  • Tempering: 160°C - 200°C
  • Achievable hardness: 57 - 60 HRC

Annealing: 780°C - 840°C

Laser cut, rolled & annealed
Austrian or German production
