Böhler S290 microclean (high-performance HSS)

Böhler S290 is an extremely high-alloyed powder metallurgy high-speed steel.
This steel bridges the gap between conventional high-speed steels and carbide.

Chemical composition

C: 2,0% | Cr: 3,8% | Mo: 2,5% | V: 5,1% | W: 14,3% | Co: 11,0%

Our "S290 steel" heat treatment recommendation:
Hardening:

• Oxidation protection required
• Hardening temperature: 1100°C - 1180°C
• Quenching medium: air or gas
• Cryogenic treatment: optional, but beneficial
• Tempering: 540°C - 580°C
• Achievable hardness: 67 - 70 HRC

Stress relieving: Hold for 2 hours at 600 to 650°C, slow furnace cooling.
